Why it matters
The cheapest legal work is the work you do before there is anything to fight over. Founders avoid these conversations because they feel like distrust. In practice the opposite is true: the discussion is easy while nothing is at stake and almost impossible once something is. Every founder dispute that becomes expensive was, at some earlier point, a twenty-minute conversation nobody wanted to have. Have it now, write it down, and sign it.
