Your First Pitch — L1 Capstone

Clarity persuades. Decoration does not.

The business case

Ten Slides and No Adjectives — Airbnb's early investor deck · United States · circa 2008–2009. When Airbnb was raising its first small round, the founders were not describing a global company. They were describing a narrow, verifiable observation: hotels sell out during events, and people have spare space.

Why it matters

Clarity persuades. Decoration does not. First-time founders consistently believe that a pitch fails because it was not impressive enough, so they add slides, adjectives and projections. Experienced listeners are doing something simpler: trying to understand what you do, for whom, and what proof you have. Every element that does not serve those three questions makes the pitch worse. You now have all three answers, gathered over eleven chapters. This chapter is about presenting them without burying them.

What you will be able to do afterwards

  • Storytelling for people who do not consider themselves storytellers
